Baked Blueberry French Toast

Janice's Recipe

ingredients
1 loaf French bread, cut into 1/2-inch thick slices
6 large eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
2 cups half and half
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 cup sugar
1 (12 ounce) bag frozen blueberries
1 tablespoon cornstarch

preparation
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix all liquid ingredients with nutmeg and sugar; pour about a third of it into a buttered 9x13" baking dish. Mix frozen blueberries with cornstarch. Add a third of them to the dish. Cover the bottom of the baking dish with half the bread slices, squeezing them in to fit and pushing them down into the batter. Pour another third of the batter over the bread, and sprinkle with another third of the blueberries. Add the last layer of bread, then add remaining batter and blueberries. Cover with a sheet of aluminum foil which is buttered on the underside. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Remove cover, and bake another 25 minutes, until slightly golden. Can be served with syrup or heavy cream.
